He was literally on his deathbed. His son and daughter, now 55 and 60, had not talked to each other for years.
His dying wish was to have them reconcile.
Suddenly they both walked in his room, wide smiles on their faces.
They came to the right side of his bed.
Tina, the oldest, spoke. “Dad, you have been right all along. We can’t even remember what we originally argued about.”
Timmy, wrapped up his older sister in a bear hug, kissed her on the cheek and said: “Tina, I am so sorry for my part in this. I have missed you so much. We have so much lost time to make up for.”
Tina: “Agreed younger brother! I have been such a judgmental idiot.” and she laid a big kiss on his left cheek.
Their father was so happy and they could see and feel it. Tears of joy were instantly running down his cheeks.
He could only manage a whisper and said:
“The only sadness I have with my passing is that I can no longer take care of you, my babies. Promise me that you will stay this way forever.”
Tina and Timmy, said in unison: “We promise.”
Tina said: “I will always take care of my baby brother from now on just as you have always done Daddy.”
They stood arm in arm for the next few hours, occasionally hugging and giggling.
Eventually the morphine drip calmly and painlessly brought his 100 year life to an end.
Tina and Timmy wept as his heart monitor flat lined.
Tina spoke: “Fuck you Timmy.”
Timmy responded: “No, fuck you Tina.”
They never spoke again.
