Author's Note: I wrote this just after George Harrison died (11/29/2001). Paul supposedly was by his side up until the end. This details the first phone call Paul made when George passed. It also shows that even legends hold grudges for decades just like the rest of us...
Paul: George passed just now.
Ringo: So sorry, I know he was like a little brother to you.
Paul: We will be having a private service here in Los Angeles; can you be here by tomorrow?
Ringo: I have been here since you called last week when you told me that he didn’t have much time left. I guess they will be calling us the Fab Two from now on.
Paul: I haven’t given it much thought.
Ringo: It was really nice of you to get him that place and make him comfortable in these final weeks.
Paul: I did all I could.
Ringo: I will let you know when I start feeling a little sick, so you can make similar arrangements. I was thinking, now that it is only the two of us, that means that there will only be one of us in the near future.
Paul: Now Ringo, don’t talk that way. We are both still touring and very healthy.
Ringo: Yes I hope that we both live for a very long time, but to be honest, I hope that I die at least a minute before you.
Paul: Neither of us is going to die anytime soon.
Ringo: I don’t think I could take being the last one left. You know that some don’t consider me a true Beatle. I can just see the headlines, “The last Beatle is dead.” Showing my picture at your wake.
Paul: You know you were as an integral part of what we were as me, George or John. It would probably be better if I went first.
Ringo: NO NO. My wake won’t even get covered by the press unless you are alive and come and sing one of the obligatory Beatles songs that you sing. If you are not alive, it will be on page ten.
Paul: The coroner just got here. Come over tonight, we need to show a unified face for the memorial and decide what songs to sing at the church.
Ringo: Did you call Yoko to tell her?
Paul: Of course not.
