One moment he was 100 years old in a hospital bed hearing his heart monitor flatline, surrounded by his children and grandchildren,
and then,
just as he was promised since he was a young boy, he was standing at the Pearly Gates!
The gates opened slowly, and God and Jesus approached him.
The man said, “There must be some mistake. I committed many sins while I was alive. I let everyone down who counted on me. Are you here to escort me to the down escalator?”
Jesus actually laughed at that one.
God said "My son, you atoned for your sins long long ago. Unfortunately, you were taught from a young age that no matter what you did you would never be good enough. Those were the devil's lies. You were perfect when you were born and you are perfect now. There was never anything you needed to be but yourself. There's nothing more you needed to do. Take it from the man that created you.
And with that said, the man openly wept like a prisoner on death row whose sentence was just commuted by the governor. For the first time in his existence his self-doubt and self flagellation left his soul and he felt a new born's contentment and purity. His shoulders sunk to a relaxed position for the first time and the tightness and tension in his chest disappeared.
The man took his first step over the threshold of heaven’s gate and then his wife appeared.
He hugged her and they wept in each other's arms for a good long time. They hadn't seen each other in over 40 years.
He then began his promised everlasting life.
