Story – I Do, I Do Too

As he made his way downstairs, his wife’s voice, projected from their bedroom, echoed down the hallway and off their hardwood floors.

“I made your coffee, don’t forget it, I put it by your keys.”

Four years ago, he fell in love with his wife’s voice before seeing her. He had been at a lunch meeting, and she was in the booth directly behind him. He listened to her conversation as if he had no choice. His heart and soul knew it was the voice of his beloved that he had searched decades for. When she got up, so did he, and he faced her silently.

She said “Yes? Can I help you?” with the softest smile.

He reached out his right hand and delicately held her left and looked in her eyes.

“As a matter of fact you can help me. I’m madly in love with you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

They were inseparable from that moment.

He was emotionally overwhelmed that someone had made him coffee this morning or any morning for that matter. They were married many years but his appreciation for the wife he had finally found never subsided.

With a tear in his eye, he grabbed the coffee and his keys off of the table by the front door and said “Love You!”

“Same!” came echoing back.

He walked out the front door and approached his car and he heard.

“Hey, Mr. Whalen!” She was leaning out of their bedroom window which was right above the driveway.

“Yes, Mrs. Whalen?”

“I do.”

“I do too.”

Every morning since they were married, they promised to renew their vows, and this morning, four years later, was no different.
