Story – The Angel Scalper

Timmy asked his date, Tina, to wait by the steps of the concert hall and then he approached the ticket Scalper.

He brought $1,000, that he had borrowed from his father, as he thought that would be enough for front row seats.

He was a high school senior as was his date. From the moment he saw her, his heart was done.

As his best friend had said, “That girl is on time.

Tina consumed him from that first moment. She was out of his league, but she seemed to like him from the moment he walked up and introduced himself. She was clearly smitten.

She had said: “Finally! What took you so long to talk to me?!

Timmy said: “I usually only date pretty girls, but I wanted to give you a chance anyway. They have made great advances in plastic surgery, you should look into them. Maybe dating you will get me into heaven.

They both laughed at the lamest pick-up line they had ever heard.

That was only one week ago.

Timmy had asked her: “Aren’t you already going to the concert next Friday?

Everyone else had paired up already.

Tina had said: “A few guys asked me, (winking at him), just not the one I want to go with.

Before he got to ask, she said: “Yes, I’ll go with you!

She grabbed his phone and put in her contact information and said: “Call me after school.” Then she ran off to third period.

It seemed that every other senior in his class was bringing their girlfriends. If you wanted to impress a young lady, these concert tickets were the best way.

Back to the night of the concert.

Timmy says to the Scalper: “I need the best seats that you got.

The Scalper shows him two front row seats and their $400 each.

Scalper says: “Where would a young guy like you get $800.00?

Timmy: “My Dad lent it to me.

Scalper: In a teary whisper, unheard by Timmy: “He didn’t lecture you about a rainy day?

Timmy reaches in his back pocket to find his wallet and finds the pocket empty.

His heart sinks.

Then he realizes he left his wallet, and his dad’s money, in his work pants.

The Scalper sees this transpire and the look of shock and fear come over the young man’s face.

Timmy looks at the Scalper and then back at his date.

He is completely crestfallen. He sees life without Tina passing before his eyes.

In that instant, the Scalper realizes the young man could lose this girl forever.

Time seems to stop as the Scalper reminisces of a similar moment thirty years ago.

He was a high school senior and a huge concert was coming to town.

He had been wanting to ask Rita Smith out, and this concert was sure to impress her. She would have to say yes.

Only problem was the seats were $100 each.

He went to his dad, and begged him for a loan.

His father denied him by saying: “Haven’t I told you to save money for a rainy day? Well, son, it’s raining now and you want me to be your umbrella? No way, let this be a life lesson for you.

Teen-aged Scalper says: “Dad, this girl is really special, please, I’ll never ask for anything again. I think I will love her forever.

His father just walked away.

Rita Smith wound up going to the concert with Eric Kowolski.

Today, 30 years later, she is still Mrs. Eric Kowolski. They have five children.

Rita still talks about how special it was that Eric took her to that concert.

Not a day goes by where the Scalper doesn’t think of Rita. He never married.

Back to the present day, outside the concert venue.

Timmy is speechless. He looks back at his beautiful date, she smiles and points at her watch.

He looks back at the Scalper, slight tears forming in both of their eyes.

The Scalper moves close to Timmy and asks: “Is she the one, are you sure?

Timmy says: “Yes. I will love her forever.

The Scalper puts the two front row tickets in his hand.

Timmy is stunned and says: “But sir, I can’t pay you.

Scalper: “Consider it a loan. Life just tried to rain on you, and I will be your umbrella. Promise me you won’t waste this son!

Timmy: “Oh I promise.

Scalper: “Have a great time.

Timmy races to Tina and shows her the front row seats. She hugs him and says: “You’re making it impossible to not fall in love with you!

30 years later they are still married and have too many kids to mention.

To this day Timmy and Tina retell the story of the Angel Scalper that gave them the life and family they have.

They still don't understand why or how, but they both knew, from the moment a Scalper gave them front row tickets for free, it was a sign from God that they were meant to be together forever.

And they were.
