Story – Her Boy

He was suddenly in sight.

It was completely unexpected.

He was alone, but that did not seem to bother him.

He was just barely beyond toddler age and he was sitting alone in a vast meadow. She had been walking alone for so many years with only herself to take care of and she believed that she was a whole and complete woman.

She was educated, accomplished, well-rounded and she had nothing but the brightest future in front of her.

She believed that she knew what her life’s path would be.

She believed that she knew what motherhood would eventually mean to her.

She believed that she knew the level of joy, love and accomplishment nurturing children would mean to her.

In reality, she knew nothing.

She watched him for a long time; her level of caution, care and worry astounded her. Her fear of “doing the wrong thing” to, or for, this life which had been left for her to nurture was so overwhelming it could paralyze her with self-doubt.

For some reason she wanted to protect the boy although he showed no outward signs of anything being wrong or deficient in his life. He was simply perfect and as time went on, it all became incredibly clear.

He was meant to be Her Boy.

Day by day she moved closer to him, ever careful to not startle him in the reality that he had created for himself in the middle of this perfect meadow.

One day she was sitting directly in front of him.

Finally and slowly he raised his head, opened his eyes, and looked directly into hers.

Their eyes were filling up as he suddenly jumped into her arms knocking both of them over. His face was buried in her neck as she lay on her back in his beautiful meadow.

As the clouds passed overhead on that beautiful sunny day, she held Her Boy and he held her. She could feel his breath on her neck and his tears rolling down the nape of her neck.

All the while, as he cried tears of true joy and of his true birth, he said,

I knew that you would come, I knew that you would come….

I always knew that would come for me..
